What Is the Difference Between QCTO and SAQA?

The organisations have different responsibilities:

• QCTO: Oversees quality assurance for occupational qualifications and accredits providers and assessment centres within its scope.
• SAQA: Registers qualifications on the NQF, including occupational qualifications recommended by the QCTO.

This means qualification registration and provider accreditation are separate checks. A registered qualification does not automatically mean that every institution advertising it is accredited to deliver it.

Who Can Study an Occupational Qualification?

Occupational training may suit school leavers, working professionals and people changing careers. However, entry requirements differ between qualifications.

Before applying, check:

• The minimum school grade or qualification required.
• Any subject, experience or foundational learning requirements.
• The duration and delivery method.
• Access to practical training and workplace experience.
• The full cost, including assessments.
